The Portuguese safety shoe group AMF has provided a work breakdown to help conceive, plan and design the new model. AMF said that anyone can find opportunities and opportunities for improvement by looking at the process step by step.

AMF Safety Shoes, a professional footwear manufacturer founded in 1999, established a work facility in Guimaraes, North Portugal, and has grown into a company that produces 600,000 pairs of functional safety shoes and work shoes every year. AMF’s ‘To Work For’ brand basically targets the “intensive labor” market, while the second brand ‘Too’l’ allows workers to safely wear them on the job site and after work. The focus is on footwear with a sneaker design that can be worn as a comfort shoe.

AMF’s Arsénio Ribeiro, Director of Technology Development and Nelson Amorim, Director of Product Design, emphasized that attention to detail can drive performance. What they pursue in their products is to have a “positive” impact on the environment, such as logistics, forestry, food industry and firefighting.

According to Director Amorim, the starting point of this process is to analyze the daily routine of the working staff step by step. Through this, by examining the “ergonomic aspect” and problems that may occur during work, it is possible to clearly create functional and visually attractive products for a footwear company. “It’s also important to think about and simulate what the wearer will do,” he stresses.

At this point, disassembly engineering begins. AMF has developed a project to design the toecap on its own. Combining each function precisely at the beginning is the way to create an ergonomically designed shoe that fits each foot, explains Amorim. He added that “the main goal” is to deliver stability, the right weight, and fit.

Before starting this creative process, the AMF development team considered the materials to be used and found a material that would provide a high level of comfort and sustainability while providing a high level of functional properties. “We are considering the type of work, durability and fit. After completing these steps, several concepts were used to design and several enduring characteristics were analyzed. Then we start to think about products using the colors, textures and materials we have chosen.” View more.
