The ‘World Leather Congress’ and the ‘IULTCS Congress’ have come to an end. TFL’s Dietrich Tegtmeyer was on site and shares his thoughts with you: “It was the first time that these events were managed in a virtual format. A lot of valuable information were shared with the audience and even discussed within a group of more than 100 participants on remote and about 100 participants on site in Addis Ababa.
Big congratulations to the organisation team around Prof. Mekonnen of the ‘African Leather & Leather Product Institute’ (ALLPI) for making such a hybrid congress possible. . „Leather – a gift from the nature” and “Greening the Leather value chain” were the overall themes which were very suitably chosen.
Many scientific ideas were shared and discussed, some of them with a high innovation potential – for example: An upcycling use of protein residues for solar panels, just to name one outstanding topic. Happily the two TFL contributions about the chemistry of Bispenols and GDA by Dr. Martin Kleban, as well as the talk about smell of Leather by Rodolfo Ampuero were well received. . TFL was the Gold Sponsor of this event and I’m convinced it was absolutely worth it.
These events, where the international community is able to discuss and exchanges thoughts are extremely important for the overall improvement process in terms of sustainable Leather management. I’m sure it was an inspiring enrichment especially for all R&D individuals and their activities around the globe – the industry needs innovation and good ideas! Again a big thank you to the organisation team. . We are already looking forward to the next ‘IULTCS Congress’ in 2023 which will take place in Chengdu, China.”
