This month marks the official launch of the Free Trade Agreement between the British Footwear Association and India

One of the most important issues on our CEO Lucy Reece-Raybould’s agenda this month is the formal consultation on a future Free Trade Agreement with India.

Lucy has been directly liaising with the Department for International Trade (DIT) and the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) to explain the nuances of the footwear sector and how tariffs and other measures are likely to affect relationships between UK businesses and Indian manufacturers.

She says: “It is imperative that forthcoming negotiations reflect the needs of the footwear sector. I have been advising DIT and BEIS on the current barriers to trade with India and have explained the specific tariffs on imports and measures that are disrupting the flow of goods between our two countries. I will continue to advocate for the footwear sector until a satisfactory Free Trade Agreement has been reached.”
